How to Troubleshoot Your Frigidaire Refrigerator

Before conducting a repair you have to determine what causes the problem. Of course, most of the time your appliance would require more thorough troubleshooting, however, we would like to present you with these simple guidelines. If your refrigerator is too warm and fails to maintain the low temperature you may have to check temperature controls, the condenser coil and the evaporator fan.

In case your ice maker doesn’t make ice or water dispenser has no water the most common cause is a faulty water supply valve. You may also have to replace the water filter. In case the ice maker is located within the freezer you may want to make sure the ice maker arm is not obstructed. Three parts in your Frigidaire refrigerator may produce unusual noises – the compressor, the evaporator fan, and the condenser fan. In case your refrigerator does not turn on and there are no lights when you open the door, the problem may lie with the faulty control board. Also, make sure to check that the appliance is properly plugged and there is current in your outlet (breaker is not tripped). The easiest way to check it is to plug in a small appliance or a table lamp.

Temperature Problems

The first thing you should do if your refrigerator doesn’t maintain the proper temperature is to check the temperature controls. You can turn down the thermostat controls – keep in mind that the temperature that your thermostat displays may vary from the actual temperature inside the refrigerator due to peculiarities of the layout of your appliance.

Check the condenser coils – they are located behind or at the bottom of your refrigerator. The condenser coils are important parts of the refrigeration process and they require regular cleaning. A large amount of dust on the coils may prevent your appliance from dissipating heat and will result in low overall efficiency, which will inevitably lead to higher energy consumption. Open the refrigerator when the compressor is running and check if the evaporator fan is running smoothly. If the fan is not working due to motor malfunction or other obstruction, the refrigerator will not be able to cool the items efficiently.This problem can also be caused by low gas pressure within the sealed system, a malfunctioning thermostat, faulty defrost system or the control board.

Ice Maker and Water Dispenser Problems

Problems with the ice maker and the water dispenser are also fairly common. Luckily, they do not cause as much inconvenience. Still, sometimes your ice maker fix can be as simple as adjusting the ice maker arm – for those ice makers that are located inside the freezer.

You may also want to check and replace the water filter and make sure the water line valve inside your appliance is open. There may be a variety of other issues with these components. Check if the icemaker power switch is turned on and that the ice cubes inside it are not jammed. Check the freezer temperature as well – if the temperature is too high the ice maker simply won’t be able to make any ice.

Water Leakage and Condensation

It is common for refrigerators to leak water on the floor in case there is ice or small debris within the drain line. The easiest way to check this is to defrost your refrigerator (it may take a few hours!) and examine the drain more carefully. Make sure to clean it if necessary and make sure there is no ice in it!
