How to Fix a Broken Frigidaire Ice-Maker

When they’re working properly, a Frigidaire ice-maker can provide you with a constant supply of ice. But what happens when your ice-maker isn’t working properly?

Over time, appliances get a lot of regular wear and tear, which means that they can and do break down from time to time. Fortunately, when they do, there are always a few simple troubleshooting steps you can take to try and fix the problem. So if you need some help with your Frigidaire ice-maker, keep reading and we’ll go over 5 of the most common issues we see!

    5 Common Frigidaire Ice-Maker Problems

All appliances have their quirks and components that are more likely to break down.

Therefore, to keep your ice-maker working properly at all times, the key is to learn about the most common ice-maker problems and what to do when you come across one.

    Ice-Maker Makes Too Much Ice

Too much ice might sound like a good thing. However, a Frigidaire ice-maker that produces too much ice can result in several problems, such as a blockage or clog that will prevent the unit from dispensing ice when needed.

If you’re experiencing ice falling outside of the main storage hopper, make sure the bucket is positioned properly. If not, ice can easily fall out of the hopper, or it can prevent the control panel from knowing when to stop producing ice.

Your ice maker should also have a feeler arm or sensor, which will tell the unit when it’s full and to stop producing new ice. If this feeler arm is jammed, frozen in place, or broken, you may need to have your ice-maker service by a qualified appliance technician.

When your Frigidaire ice-maker doesn’t make any ice at all, you’ve likely got a blockage in the water line or filter, which will prevent the unit from getting enough water to produce ice.

Here are a few tips to try and fix this inconvenient issue.

But first, it’s important to mention that, before you attempt to make any repairs to your appliance, make sure to turn off the power at your home’s main electrical panel or by unplugging the unit from its outlet.

If you have a frozen water line, you may be able to defrost the line using a hair dryer or some warm water. However, if you have a broken water line, you’ll likely need to replace it with a new one.

Alternately, if you have a filter issue, you’ll need to replace the old filter with a new one. A new filter should allow for a better flow of water and will help reduce any blockages.

    Frigidaire ice maker control arm

When ice cubes don’t eject from your Frigidaire ice-maker, it’s possible the control arm is broken or isn’t in the right position, which prevents the ice-maker from dropping ice into the hopper.

Alternatively, you might have an electrical problem, which is preventing the control arm from receiving power from the control panel.

To rule out electrical problems, you can try to unplug the appliance from the outlet and then plug it back in to make sure the connection is good.

Your ice-maker may also have a quick-release plug (if located inside the freezer), which should be checked to ensure a proper connection.

To try and reset the unit, remove any ice occupying space in the tray. Then, give your appliance a couple of hours to see if it starts producing and dispensing ice properly.

If the ice-maker still doesn’t eject ice cubes, feel free to contact a professional appliance repair technician, who can easily provide you with a proper diagnosis and fix the issue, getting your ice-maker up and running again in no time!

    Ice-Maker Is Leaking

A leaking Frigidaire ice-maker isn’t ideal. In fact, when you got a leaking appliance, it can quickly turn into a disaster if not addressed as soon as possible.

If your ice-maker is leaking, start by turning off the water supply to the unit. Then, you’ll need to check the water line and valve to try and pinpoint where the leak is coming from.

If you notice the water leak coming from a connection point where the water line is attached the the unit, you can try tightening the connection. This may fix the leak, unless the connection is cracked or broken.

If the water line, connections, or valve is broken, you will need to replace these parts.

In this situation, you should reach out to an appliance repair service to ensure that your unit won’t leak again in the future. A professional technician will do what they can to stop your ice-maker from leaking and keep it that way!

    Ice Cubes Are Too Small

If your Frigidaire ice-maker is producing small ice cubes, there might be a problem with the ice-maker’s waterline, which is preventing enough water getting through to create bigger cubes of ice.

In general, this issue is most often caused by a blockage, which can usually be removed manually or with the help of a bit of warm water.  However, before you attempt to tackle this problem, always make sure you turn the power off to the appliance.
